Description

Trying to apply project management in a “paint by numbers” fashion does not work. With all the rules and guidelines of project management, one still cannot anticipate project success if only everything were done according to the rule book. Sometimes, the most successful project is a result of knowing when project management rules should be followed, and when they should be broken. This recording will explore some of the more common project management rules and guidelines, and it will discuss what conditions might warrant a variation from these rules. Specific topics covered include: activity durations, work breakdown structures, communications, and stakeholders.

About the Author

Paul Bergman is a Principal and Senior Consultant with Procept Associates Ltd. and has over eighteen years' experience in all aspects of formal project management. As a trainer and consultant, Paul Bergman takes a hands-on approach, integrating the "theories" of project management with real-world applications. His courses are deliberately interactive and encourage participants to challenge the theory in order to make project management applicable to their own environment. All of his courses and seminars use terminology and process consistent with the framework of knowledge of the Project Management Institute. He holds an engineering degree from the University of Toronto, and he has been designated by PMI as a Project Management Professional (PMP) since 1992. Paul has written papers and spoken on the topic of project management at conferences for organizations including the American Society for Quality Control, the Project Management Institute and Project World symposia. In addition to providing in-house training and consulting services to leading organizations, Paul Bergman's project management seminars are offered across Canada through such leading universities as University of Toronto, University of Waterloo, St. Mary's University, and University of Victoria.
